Apple’s latest iPhone 5 might be a powerhouse globally, fighting Samsung for top rank, but weak distribution and a high price tag are limiting its sales in China, where it’s soon to become the world’s largest smartphone market. Though the iPhone continues to be hugely popular among Chinese consumers, this may not be enough to hold onto the interest of China’s 290 million smartphone users. China is still Apple’s second-largest market, but iPhone sales are losing traction to competition from Samsung, as well as domestic handset makers like Xiaomi. Upstart Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is on track to post $2 billion in sales, with some tricks borrowed from Apple’s playbook. Xiaomi Phone 2 Officially Launching on October 30th, Only Limited 50,000 Units

The Chinese superstar phone maker Xiaomi has finally announced its launch plan for the retail version of its very own Xiaomi Phone 2. The quad-core handset will be on sale next Tuesday (October 30th), the company’s online store will release the first 50,000 units, followed by another 250,000 units in mid-November. Additionally, the device will be offering in both 16GB and 32GB storage, which priced at 1,999 yuan (US$320) and 2,299 yuan (US$370), respectively. Customer in China can now register online for a reserving quota. We believe some grey market online retailer will be selling it by next week. Chinese manufacturer Huawei’s flagship Android device, the Ascend D1 quad has been made available in the company’s online store for 2,699 yuan (US$425). The phone features a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 processor, which is a Huawei’s homegrown K3V2 system-on-chip. It also comes with a 4.5-inch Toshiba IPS+ HD display, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage. The first batch has already sold out, while a second batch will be shipped within two weeks.
