There’re finally some news about the awesome Xiaomi’s set top box after the Chinese regulator put it on hold last November. Recently, Xiaomi confirmed that its set top box will resume providing portion of video content services to customers next week, and the company has officially announced a partnership with “CNTV”, one of the seven licensed content providers. However, it’s unclear whether the Chinese regulator will approve the device or not. Furthermore, there’s also no words on how many contents can remain to broadcast on the device. More info after the break.

Xiaomi has been seen as China’s answer to Apple, and its latest released Xiaomi Box is notorious for being an Apple TV knockoff with a very cheap price tag. As expected, the Xiaomi Box is reportedly suffering from government investigation, which might led to the launch delayed. Rumor circulated that Xiaomi Box did not have the license to provide content over its set top box.

China’s homegrown smartphone brand Xiaomi is increasingly looking like Apple. After the launch of Xiaomi Mi-Two, the company has announced the release of its latest product — Xiaomi Box. It’s a set top box that looks very alike to Apple TV, but offers at a very tempting price. Although China has a flood of cheap Android TV dongles and set-top boxes , Xiaomi Box is still arguably competitive.
