This. Is. Sad. After an explosion happened at Foxconn’s Chengdu plant last week, the latest news today is an employee at the Chengdu assembly plant leaped to his death from a dormitory building on the grounds of the industrial base on Thursday 1am (May 26) without specifying the reason, said a person familiar with the matter…
UPDATE: The employee jumped from the fifth floor and he died.
Foxconn CEO Terry Gou gives his public comment.
We don’t care who makes the smallest camera, since we just got our hands all over the tiny, mini form of Olympus E-PL2. It’s real, but non-functional.
UPDATE: Check out how awesome it looks in Obama figurine’s hands!
This. Is. Sad. Here’s the story. Apple’s white iPhone 4 has been restocked today in Beijing Apple Store, and just like always, dozens of scalpers wait outside the store to get the white iPhone 4, and they were told to wait in line. However, the scalpers were later told that they are not allowed to go inside the store. So scalpers got pissed, and they got in a fight with the securities, and quarreled with some Apple store employees. At this time, an Apple Store employee (non-Chinese), John, came out from the store with a metal club and hit 4 people, including 2 young men and 2 middle age women. Then, John went back to the store. More scalpers got pissed and they smashed the glass door of the store, which costs about 300,000 yuan ($46,000). So this caused the store to temporarily shut down. Photos and a video after the break.
UPDATE: Store is back up!
UPDATE 2: It’s all a ’selfish’ scalper’s fault!
UPDATE 3: Apple pays compensation!
It’s just like old times, and after the launch of iPad 2 in Hong Kong and white iPhone 4 in China last week, Apple’s iPad 2 went on sale at Apple Stores in China on Friday. The launch at Beijing Apple Store is outrageous, drawing hundreds of customers and scalpers to the store, and guess what, the iPad 2 goes out of stock in just 4 hours. We have lots of photos from the Beijing Apple Store’s iPad 2 launch after the break. Enjoy.
UPDATE: Video!
Starting today, the long awaited white iPhone 4 is finally available for purchase. It’s good news, especially for the iPhone scalpers in Hong Kong. Previously, they thought the scalping game is over, but they are now rolling out once again to get as much white iPhones as they could, and sell them to Mr Lo, the master of iPhone grey market. So, it’s midnight for the launch here, and we can see a big crowd of people waiting in line outside the local carriers.
UPDATE: Video!!
Here are two big news for Meizu fanyboys. First, the mighty M9 Android smartphone is getting an upgrade, and instead of naming its successor as M9II, Meizu CEO Jack Wong decided to call it as MX. Sounds pretty cool, and it will be coming with HDMI-out by year’s end! Next, Meizu plans to expand into the US, opening a California office and offer product support to their international customers. Great!
UPDATE: Moving to the US seems to be a joke…

We love made-in-China gadgets, and we love Shanzhai (山寨) too. We know China is famous for counterfeit products, and counterfeiting has played an important role in China’s tech industry. The knock-offs amazed people around the world, and some wish they can score the shanzhai versions of gadgets they got from famous tech brands. Here comes the question, do you know how the shanzhai industry works? The video below explains everything you ever wanted to know about shanzhai.
UPDATE: Here’s Part 2!
