Chinese beachgoers wear body suits and protective head masks, dubbed “facekinis”, on a crowded public beach in Qingdao city, located in eastern Shandong province, Eastern China. Last year, we have already seen this kind of ‘high-tech’ anti-tanning swimwear. This year it becomes a trend in Qingdao city. The masks are made of a stretchy fabric that is commonly used in bathing suits and can be accompanied by apparel that covers other parts of the body, such as the arms. The mask was invented by a local about seven years ago and is now being mass produced. This is the newest way for Chinese people, especially old ladies, trying to prevent themselves from getting a tan while sitting on the beach. The “facekinis” is selling at a price for US$2, some local residents are making their own out of old clothes. More hilarious pictures after the break.

Batman star Christian Bale was in China last week to promote his newest Chinese film in Beijing. He decided to do something unusual to raise the international awareness of Chen Guangcheng, a blind activist which currently under house-arrest in a tiny village in Shandong province, eastern China. The Hollywood actor drove eight hours from Beijing to Shandong with CNN cameramen and reporters, attempt to visit Chen and thereby to turn up the heat on the Chinese government. Upon arriving, Bale and his entourage of CNN crew were pushed around and chased away by the team of undercover policemen guarding Chen’s house.
