
LENOVO, China’s biggest personal computer maker, has announced that it is recalling more than 50,500 desktop computers sold globally and in China, because of potential hazards of overheating and fire accidents. The company decided to recall the faulty desktops after two American consumers reported problems of power management which caused smoke and fire during usage. The models involved include Lenovo’s ThinkCentre M70z and M90z, which were produced from May 2010 to January 2012 and sold overseas and in China. Lenovo advised users to shut down their PCs immediately and contact them for free power replacement. Lenovo bought the IBM brand, so it should maintain the quality. From a customer perspective, it would be a shame to see the current Thinkpad/ThinkCenter products has dropped in quality since the Chinese manufacturer take-over.

A new computer virus known as “Illegal Resident” is currently pervading the internet in China. By using Trojans to open secret accounts, PC users are hardly aware of the virus. Even though the Trojans can be detected and cleaned out by security software, hackers can still invade the infected PC. It is estimated that the virus has already put more than a hundred thousand units of computer under security risks …
Most of PC gamers should have already heard of two high-end and highly priced devices — Razer Blade and Razer Switchable back in August, where the company thinks “PC gaming is not dead” and expecting to see both of its newly launch machines to become world’s first true gaming laptop that could dominate the hearts of PC gamer. Razer had moved all the way across the pacific ocean to China, to jointly release Razer Blade in China together with Intel and Tencent.
Todd Bradley, HP’s Personal System Group head and former Palm executive, told Sina, the largest Chinese-language infotainment web portal, that the company would look for partners around the world to adopt webOS. Bradley also talked about the company’s future plans in the China market, and added his belief that he does not need to sign up a Twitter account, or a Sina Weibo account. China overtook the US in both PC sales and shipments in the second quarter of 2011. According to research firm IDC, China’s PC sales reached US$11.9 billion, while for US, PC sales fell behind to $11.7 billion. As for shipments, China gained a 14.3 percent increase to 18.5 million units year-over-year. But in the US, PC shipments dropped by 4.9 percent to 17.7 million units. This is the first time China has overtaken the US in shipments and sales …
China’s largest PC makers Lenovo will take a step forward into the Japanese market as partnering up with Japanese NEC Co. for a “strategic alliance”. Under the terms of the deal, a new NEC Lenovo Japan Group will be formed, the joint venture will be based on Tokyo-based NEC Personal Products, which wholly owned subsidiary of NEC, with Lenovo expected to take a 51 percent stake in the partnership.
All-in-one PC might become another important knockoff production. In term of its screen size, the manufacturers are offering 15.6-inches (1366×768), 18.5-inches and 21.5-inches versions. Well, we don’t expect it is powerful, but this iMac knockoff here is at least sufficient for web browsing and some other entry-level tasks. Yeah, it looks like Apple’s white iMac.
