
Asus first showed us its Transformer AiO — an 18.4-inch Full HD all-in-one/tablet combo that runs both Windows 8 and Android — back at last year Computex, then it showed up again at this year CES, the Tanwanese PC maker has finally given us a release date and a price for its giant tablet. Transformer AiO is a powerful desktop PC, running Windows 8, Intel Core CPU, a bunch of memory and hardisk storage. As a tablet, you can keep running Windows 8 in remote desktop mode or you can run Android Jelly Bean on the device with ARM processor. The Transformer AiO is expected to be available early second quarter at US$1,299 for the basic model. You will get a Windows 8 machine running on a Core i3, 4 GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive storage, and it also comes with a DVD-RW optical drive which properly nobody is going to use it. Popping it from the dock you will get a super-size tablet with its own internal specs: a quad-core Tegra 3, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of flash storage. We will see how the market respond to this crazy all-in-one concept.

NVIDIA, the Taiwanese chip maker has revealed the next industry-leading mobile processor the Tegra 4 at CES 2013. This processor works with 72 GPU cores, 4 A15 CPU cores (1.9GHz), and the ability to work with 4G LTE. The first test this processor was put to live on stage was between itself in an unnamed tablet and the Google Nexus 10 – loading webpages on the Tegra 4 is about 46 percent quicker than the Nexus 10. NVIDIA also announced one of the most disruptive products in their history, called Project SHIELD, a portable gaming device that signifies a vertical integration move …

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga, the transforming tablet which was shown off earlier this year at the CES in Las Vegas, will come in two versions – one that has an Intel processor and one that has a lower-powered ARM Nvidia Tegra processor. The ARM version will have double the battery life of the Intel version. The ARM version will be running Windows RT, it won’t have access to all the legacy applications for Windows, therefore, the Yoga will have access to all the apps in Microsoft’s Store. The device is scheduled to hit the market around the time of the general availability of Windows 8, which is slated for Oct. 26. We believe casual consumer will be confused the differences between Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro models, and of course the price will also determine their desire for purchasing.

The Nvidia’s Kai system-on-chip underlying Google’s Nexus 7 tablet and other forthcoming low-cost tablets may also be making its way to smartphones soon. The initial target of the Kai platform were tablets, but now the Taiwan chip maker turns the project to bring affordable quad-core processors to smartphones. According to a Chinese tech site report, the Kai platform which enables quad-core mobile computing at a lower price point, will be appearing in smartphones produced by several Chinese handset makers before the end of this year …

Asus unveiled a number of computers and peripherals under their ROG line (Republic of Gamers) at Computex. Of the lot, the Asus Tytan CG8890 got most of the media attention. The new ultra premium gaming machine can physically transform itself upon hitting a one-click overclocking button dubbed Turbo Gear – without rebooting or having to do any of the messy processes to get the most out of the PC’s gear. At Nvidia’s annual meeting of investors last week, the Taiwanese chipmaker revealed the idea of a new platform called ‘Kai’, it isn’t just a piece of hardware, but a plan to democratize its quad-core Tegra 3 system-on-chip. Nvidia wants to offer Android 4.0 tablets that are more powerful than the Kindle Fire at the same price point. Nvidia will use cheaper DDR3L memory for this new platform and also the DirectTouch and Prism low-power display technologies which the company has developed. The first tablets on sale will be at this summer …
