There’s a hefty mark-up whacked on foreign goods in China market. Chinese consumer have to pay extra more for these imported goods which some are made in China. In the communist country, comparing to the US, you have to pay 83 percent more for a cup of Starbucks coffee, 67 percent more for a pair of Nike basketball shoe, 130 percent more for a Columbia jacket. And the most unanticipated case, a Thinkpad laptop, which is now considered own by Lenovo, is 45 percent cheaper if you buy it in US ! The high distribution fees and higher tax have caused these stuff to be more expensive in China. Ironically, the Chinese only have US$4,940 per capita income, while American have almost 10 times more ! The communist government is the overall winner. Intel Patners with Acer to Introduce More Intel-powered Smartphone

Intel is trying all their best to expand its presence in the smartphone industry. The world’s biggest chipmaker joined Acer to unveil the Liquid C1 smartphone, a US$330 device running Google’s Android operating system, which will be launched first in Thailand market and then rolled out across Southeast Asia. Last year, Intel persuaded Chinese hardware manufacturers ZTE and Lenovo to build their own phones with Intel chips, but sales have not been stellar. Lenovo shipped more than 1 million units of its best-selling phone in China in the third quarter of last year, but shipped only about 20,000 of its first Intel phone, the K800. Look like Lenovo has not put in too much effort on establishing an x86 beachhead in ARM territory …

Lenovo Introduces Expensive Chromebook Under ThinkPad Line for Schools Kids

Lenovo introduced its first Chromebook, a laptop the company says is designed primarily for use in schools. But while the Lenovo ThinkPad X131e Chromebook is priced at an so-called affordable US$430, it’s more expensive than the Chromebooks offer by Acer($200) and Samsung($250). So, what’s with the high price tag ? Lenovo said that their ThinkPad Chromebook is more sturdy — the corners, hinges and hinge brackets have all been reinforced. There is a rubberized bumper coating the back of the laptop’s monitor, rather than the plastic construction on the other Chrome OS devices. You also get a high-definition, 11.6-inch, 1366×768 LED display, a 6.5-hour battery, and an Intel Celeron processor inside. And of course, you have to pay a little bit more for its signature red trackpad nub …

Lenovo has unveiled a 27-inch all-in-one desktop at CES. The new Horizon Table PC is a big multi-touch touchscreen device which aimed at family time around the coffee table. It is a Windows 8-based PC and it can be propped up and viewed in different modes. The Horizon can lie flat on any surface, lets two or more people use the screen at the same time. It can even supports interactive physical gaming accessories for touchscreen gameplay among several players. The using experience on Horizon may define as the new PC Plus era, it will be interesting to see how the machine may become the centrepiece of homes or businesses. One more thing, Lenovo will also have a larger 37-inch Horizon Table PC in the pipeline ready for release, pictures after the jump.

Samsung’s reign at the top of the smartphone-tablet hybrid market could end this year, as many major manufacturers are expected to release their own big-screen mobile devices to challenge the Galaxy Note 2’s supremacy. Lenovo has just announced the K900 smartphone/tablet hybrid over at CES. The new phablet comes with a 1080p, 5.5-inch screen and powered by Intel Atom processor. Like the Galaxy Note 2, the K900 has a big 5.5-inch touchscreen, however instead of a 720p resolution, Lenovo claims it’s the first in the world to bestow such a display with 1920 × 1080 pixels; providing a 1080p resolution and a pixel density of more than 400ppi. Lenovo Wants ThinkPad to Compete with Apple Macbook

Lenovo will be splitting its internal operations into two groups: Lenovo for mid- and low-range products, and Think for higher-end products currently associated with the ThinkPad. According to an internal email from Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing, the company will be reorganizing under two separate groups and splitting how it will handle each brand. Starting in April, Lenovo Business Group will handle mid-range laptops, desktop, and tablet computers, as well as smart TVs. Think Business Group will be aimed at producing enterprise machines and high-end consumer products. The CEO notes that Think is best positioned to compete with Apple in the high-end market …
