Huawei held a launch event in Beijing this afternoon. And sadly, there isn’t a 6.1-inch giant phone to be found. But the good news is, Huawei Honor II has been announced. Honor II is a 4.5-inch quad-core phone with an amazingly low price tag at 1,888 yuan ($305). We’re totally stunned! It’s even cheaper than Xiaomi’s quad-core phone. Check out the launch event and a review of Huawei Honor II after the break.

Still remember the quad-core tablet Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD? It was revealed to the world at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona way back in February. The Chinese-branded tablet has a high-res screen (1,920×1,200-pixel resolution) and powerful 1.2GHz quad-core processor. Huawei May Produces Surface Phone for Microsoft

A new rumor suggests that Huawei, the Chinese telecoms equipment maker, might be the chosen manufacturer to produce the rumored Microsoft Surface Phone. The info comes from a Twitter user who proved to offer quite accurate details on Microsoft’s plans for the Windows Phone platform before. Mediatek, the Taiwan company which specialize on system-on-chip solutions, is another Chinese manufacturer where Microsoft is interested in. The news suggest that the Surface phone may not be high-end after all, since Mediatek’s chips are widely used on very low end smartphones mainly in China and Huawei’s main distribution is also in China, which is a price sensitive market. It would not come as a surprise if the Surface phone, provided that this is the device Microsoft is working on, would be launched as an affordable smartphone for wider market reach. We might actually seeing a second-gen of KIN being brought to shelves. Anyone get excited ?

[UPDATE: CBS News video added] According to a U.S. congressional report, Huawei and ZTE, China’s two largest phone-equipment makers, are providing opportunities for Chinese intelligence services to tamper with U.S. telecommunications networks for spying. The report says the two companies failed to cooperate with a yearlong investigation and to adequately explain their U.S. business interests and relationship with the Chinese government. The House investigation found “credible” reports of illegal behavior by Huawei, including immigration violations, bribery and corruption, based on statements from current and former employees. Internal Huawei documents supplied by a former employee showed the company provides “special network services” to an entity the former employee believes is an “elite cyber-warfare unit” within the Chinese army …
