
The love for PSY’s “Gangnam Style” certainly hasn’t slowed with the horsey dance video currently at over 1.5 billion views on YouTube. Its follow-up “Gentleman” music video, has followed a similar style to “Gangnam.” Despite the new single being titled “Gentleman,” the video showcases the K-pop king pulling chairs out from beneath beautiful women, making little kids cry and attempting to pull off sunbathing girls’ tops. Those well-versed in “Gangnam Style” will see familiar faces like the dancing man in the yellow suit, the man in the cowboy hat in the elevator and hoards of hilarious senior citizens. We also have a new subtle hip-shaking choreography with an innovative lyrical hook like “I’m a motherfather gentleman.” Overall, PSY’s performance is still entertaining, but will it break the record again is still too early to say.

Forget Gangnam Style, a new dance craze has a billion followers online. The Korean rapper PSY, who shot to global fame with his ‘Gangnam Style’ music video last year, has done his dance on Chinese television to celebrate the China’s spring festival. The show was pre-recorded and aired on Shanghai-based Dragon TV. PSY performed “Gangnam Style” with dancing robots and tried to teach Gangnam basics to the hosts and audience. The performance looked rather dull, as people in the world had already seen it for many times. The reliance on international stars in this kind of TV variety show required hefty fees. But Chinese audience always get excited when famous foreign figures giving performance to China, especially PSY is so damn popular in the communist land. South Korea’s pop sensation PSY was named the No. 1 celebrity on SINA weibo, China’s own Twitter-like social network service, reflecting his popularity even in China. Chinese dissident and artist Ai Weiwei is pushing Chinese authorities’ buttons again, this time with a “Gangnam style” video spoof that was quickly blocked from Chinese websites. In the video, Ai sports a neon-pink T-shirt, black jacket, dark sunglasses, wearing a handcuffs and energetically mimics rodeo-style dance moves made famous by South Korean rapper PSY, whose original video became an Internet sensation, especially in China. What is Ai’s message ? The artist calls his version ‘Grass-Mud Horse Style,’ a reference to a Chinese Internet meme that employs a pun on an obscene phrase to mock government censorship of the Web …

With the South Korean single “Gangnam Style” and its music video proving a worldwide sensation, Chinese fans have been busy creating their own “Chinese Style” versions. More than 4,000 videos filmed at schools, in parks and even at weddings were uploaded to China video hosting site.
