With all the controversy about working conditions in Foxconn, we thought it might be a good time to relate some of the workers’ experiences inside the manufacturing plants. China Business News reports on an interview that it did with a Foxconn worker called Wang Xiaoqiao (not his real name), and Wang reveals that employees who are involved in the production of the new iPad are now working fewer hours and they have been given more days off.

So I was watching the rumors of Apple’s iPad 3 today. The whole rumor thing have reached fever pitch, as photos and documents claiming that the new tablet is already being shipped from China to America have surfaced. And one Foxconn employee from the Chengdu plant have sent me a photo showing iPad 3 units being packed in large stack of carton boxes before leaving the plant…

This. Is. Sad. After an explosion happened at Foxconn’s Chengdu plant last week, the latest news today is an employee at the Chengdu assembly plant leaped to his death from a dormitory building on the grounds of the industrial base on Thursday 1am (May 26) without specifying the reason, said a person familiar with the matter…
UPDATE: The employee jumped from the fifth floor and he died.

On Friday, a horrific explosion has occurred at the Foxconn Chengdu plant. We have collected the latest news and information on the status of the factory. Meanwhile, the press media from China are restricted to report any latest news, including the Government official media, Xinhua news. A Taiwan TV crew has arrived at the spot, and we have detailed information on what is going on at Chengdu’s factory after the explosion. What we know right now, Foxconn seems to be covering up the mess…
From China Xinhua news, a third employee has died from the explosion. After the first stage of investigation, the accidental explosion was caused by combustible dust which gathered at the dust collecting pipe in one of the polishing workshop. If you wonder what is combustible dust, you can watch this video show from CBS, and you will know how dangerous it is.
Foxconn was plagued by a string of worker suicides at the factory in Shenzhen last year, prompting the company to raise up workers’ salaries. Eventually, Foxconn planned to shift the manufacture lines to other province of China, in order to increase the production level. The city of Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan, is located at the southwest China. Last year August, Foxconn opened a new 2-billion-U.S.-dollar plant over there. With the help from the inland governments and officials, the new facotry take only about two months plus to build up and start to produce iPad. At the mean time, there is about 20,000 workers in Chengdu’s factory. Today, an explosion occurred at the factory, so this is the right time to let everyone know about the inside story of this newest Foxconn’s manufacture plant…
At around 19:00 in China, Foxconn Chengdu manufacture plant got an explosion, we are not sure actually what cause the explosion and how many casualties had resulted. At the scene, there are currently more than 10 fire engines, ambulances and 10 police cars had arrived on the scene. And, the explosion is happened in an operating room inside Foxconn. UPDATE: The explosion happened in A5 building (A05), and we heard that building is also the production line of iPad 2! 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor were damaged as well. The explosion is likely to be caused by super-light dust.
UPDATE 2: We got a video of the latest scene. The situation is chaos, like a mess.
UPDATE 3: This explosion had already caused 6 men and 1 woman wounded.
UPDATE 4: Two people were killed and 16 injured, 3 seriously injured. Police’s investigation suggested the cause of explosion ruled out human factors.
