It is kind of weird that the XPERIA Play has not made its official China debut on any Chinese mobile networks yet. Today, it looks like Sony Ericsson is finally looking to expand their reach by offering the phone on China Unicom, the world’s third-biggest mobile provider.

Looks like we have a new member in the smartphone family. Introducing WoPhone, an entirely new OS built around the Linux core, and it’s geared toward mobile handsets and tablets. With this Linux-based WoPhone platform, China Unicom is planning to work with major handset makers to build devices using the new OS. Companies including ZTE, Huawei, TCL, Samsung, Motorola, and HTC are supporting the great idea.
It appears China Unicom has blocked the access of their iPhone customers to the servers the App Store alternative Cydia operates on, in mainland China, when using a 3G connection. Jailbreaking tools such as GreenPois0n and Limera1n, once installed on the iPhone, will not be able to download the Cydia package unless you have a VPN setup on the iPhone, or using other repos.
China Mobile Chairman, Wang Jianzhou has confirmed Apple will fully supports China Mobile’s next generation TD-LTE technology and in talks with Apple over an iPhone that will run on its home-grown TD-SCDMA network.
Apple iPad 3G finally got approved from Chinese regulator to sell in China. On the other hand, an Apple spokesperson, Caroline Wu also confirmed their iPad 3G version will bring into the Chinese market soon. However, the spokesperson declined to tell the timeframe for a release.
Not only Skype, but any third-party VOIS (voice-over-Internet protocol) services won’t be able to take a step forward to operate its service in China unless they are provided by China Telecom and China Unicom.
As China Unicom is the only supplier of iPhone 4 in China, and they are having difficulties to fulfilled a large scale of consumers in China. Therefore, the company reduced the price of iPhone 3GS, trying to attract more 3Gs users.

China Unicom began a new sale contract yesterday which bundled iPhone with the SIM card together, aiming to crack down scalpers resold iPhones and SIM cards separately to make great profits.
Undoubtedly, mobile phone app store has become the most fierce battlefield among Chinese telecom operators. From last year until now, there are many companies around the world building their app store since Apple’s success. China Unicom, the second largest mobile operator with 162 million subscribers, the company finally launched its Wostore early this month to compete with “Mobile Market” from China Mobile and “eStore” from China Telecom.
