
On a busy commercial street in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, this live-in bubble is being used as transparent tents that attract the attention of passersby. A pretty Chinese girl is living inside the tent for two days. This huge bubble is being used as commercial promotion for camping, taking a new approach to alternative living. Better than a normal tent, it has more room, the necessary furniture and no shortage of sunshine. It also provides a 360-degree view to the bubble resident while offering a unique scene to those who walk by. We can imagine it would be a rather unusual experience to camp outdoors in this prefabricated, modern-styled mobile hotel, and it will be damn hot if you use this tent during summer time. The transparent bubble tent is not original from China, the tent-like chamber was design by a French designer and previously it was only available in Europe …

Officials in the city of Chengdu have been spraying grass borders in the town with green dye to make them seem more verdant. Chengdu officials, sprucing up the town ahead of a major global business forum later this year, lit upon an easy solution to cheer up the appearance of the city: a non-toxic chemical dye called “Top Green Turf Greening Agent.” The makers insist that the dye is safe and it is widely used in China. Residents found the dye has made their shoes green as they walked across the city’s newly lush lawns. Most people were aghast at the lengths their officials would go to in order to beautify the city, to project a harmonious image. We are actually confounded this kind of ignorance about the Communist party, do they think it’s just like dying their hair ? If you have found that the sky in China suddenly turns so bluish, especially in Beijing — it might be also spray painted …

[UPDATE] According to Financial Times report, Foxconn has imposed a recruitment freeze this week across most of its factories in China. Human resources officials at Foxconn’s largest factories, local government officials and external recruiters working with the company said there had been internal notices to halt hiring until at least the end of March, in response to reduced orders for the iPhone 5. Recruiters said hiring has stopped for the iPhone and production lines in Shenzhen and Zhengzhou. Taiyuan, which makes iPhone parts, and Chengdu, which makes the iPad, were also putting a freeze on hiring. The suspension in hiring by Foxconn is the first such countrywide move since the 2009 downturn, prompted by the financial crisis. No large recruitment take place also give us a hint that there will be no Apple major new product coming soon …

Apple has been looking for two sites in Chengdu to open its Apple Store, where the one on Chenghua district in the high end development MixC city has just announced on Apple’s China official site, it will have a grand opening ceremony together with Hong Kong’s third Apple Store in the morning this Saturday. Several teddy bear mascots are taking subway in Chengdu, Sichuan Province to promote green commuting as a means to alleviate the traffic congestions. And the very first teddy bear museum will be opened soon in Chengdu city. It’s encouraging to make the commute bearable, instead of bloody subway fight which is disturbing. Face changing act is an ancient Chinese dramatic art that is part of the more general Sichuan opera. Performers wear brightly colored costumes and move to quick, dramatic music. Performers wear vividly colored masks, they wave their arms and twist their heads, and their so-called painted masks change repeatedly. Car shows in China have long been synonymous with attractive female model to bare their best assets while showing off the latest in the automotive industry. Car manufacturer showed off their latest car with almost naked model at the Chengdu International Auto Show last week. Wearing a fish-net shirt with two small flesh-coloured stickers covering her nipples, the hot chick wowed both car-lovers and local press alike for the revealing outfit. On the next day, the half-naked model was banned by the authority for attending the show .
Once a major player in China’s mobile market, Nokia is now facing layoffs and office closures in China, due to a large drop in its market share in the country and elsewhere around the world. The Wall Street Journal reports that Nokia is closing two regional sales offices in China, and laying off up to 10,000 staff globally. So does anyone care?
Heavy rains have battered Chengdu over the past few days, but this won’t stop young jobseekers lining up for Foxconn summer jobs at the Foxconn plant in Chengdu.
