In 2010, Apple announced a plan of opening 25 stores in China by the end of 2012. Today, Apple has five retail stores in China, two in Beijing, three in Shanghai, but none in South China region where major cities such as Shenzhen and Chengdu are located. Since there are always huge crowds gathering outside the China Apple stores, Apple definitely need more points of sale in the country to disperse the crowds (especially scalpers). 22 fake Apple stores were recently discovered in the Chinese city of Kunming, and Apple later filled a complaint to order all 22 of these shops to make their Apple branding vanish. We know the “legendary” fake Apple store in Kunming is trying their best to look similar to an Apple Store, and at the same time, they are trying to pass themselves off as an Apple Store. Recently, we see something different at the store. They have changed their store name to “Smart Store”. The glowing Apple logo is still there, but other fake Apple stores in Kunming have pulled down the Apple logo.
