
ZTE had entered the phablet arena with the Grand S device launched at the CES last month. Now, as expected, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has introduced another new phablet, called the Grand Memo that officially made its debut at this year’s Mobile World congress. The ZTE Grand Memo was earlier teased at an event in Hong Kong last month. Measuring 8.3mm, the ZTE Grand Memo sports a 5.7-inch screen with a 720p resolution and comes with Android 4.1.2 on-board. There’s a 13-megapixel rear camera capable of 1080p video recording. Internally, the device is powered by a Qualcomm quad-core processor, clock speed at 1.7GHz. It is loaded with 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The Grand Memo becomes the first Android device to feature Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 800 CPU …

Huawei has finally announced their new flagship smartphone, the Huawei Ascend P2. The Ascend P2 should come as no surprise, as it’s a followup device to last year’s Ascend P1, which was announced at CES 2012. The new Chinese handset has been making its rounds on the internet for quite a while, showing up in leaked photos. The P2 runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, with Huawei’s Emotion UI on top. It features a 4.7-inch, 720p HD display with a 315-pixel density and promises high contrast for outdoor legibility. As for the decision to go with a 720p resolution rather than the Full HD resolution favored by today’s top phones, Huawei defended it with the claim that user eyes can’t identify those extra more pixel. The screen also comes with a feature called “Magic Touch” which allows the user to interact with the phone even with gloves on. In addition, Ascend P2 is the first smartphone in the world that can support LTE Cat-4, meaning you could theoretically get speeds up to 150Mbps …

[UPDATE] Huawei unveiled the 6.1-inch Ascend Mate smartphone (phablet) at CES in Las Vegas today. The Huawei Ascend Mate features a ginormous 6.1-inch 1280 x 720 touchscreen display, making it the largest smartphone in size on the market today. It also has a 241ppi pixel density and arrives complete with “Magic Touch” technology, which means that you can use the phone while wearing non-touchscreen gloves. Taking tips from its Galaxy Note rival, the Huawei Ascend Mate also comes with multitasking support, which means that you can watch a video while typing an email in a “Floating Window” …

When HTC introduced the 5-inch 1080p display J-Butterfly, it was clear this would be the new high-spec standard for 2013, replacing the widely used 4.7-inch 720p screen. The latest company to join the party is ZTE (again …), they seems to be quite eager to unveil that Grand S beast smartphone. So much so in fact that the company jumped the gun and spilled some beans on its upcoming FHD 5-inch device ahead of its CES debut. ZTE says it will be the slimmest device at the party, measured at only 6.9-millimeter. The ZTE Z753, as it’s also known, is rumored to feature a quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel camera and run on Jelly Bean.
