Fire Reported At Foxconn

A fire broke out yesterday at a building inside Foxconn, the fire was discovered at around 6pm, the location is one of the computer assembly plant. Reporters waiting outside the plant saw several fire engines entering into the complex and were later told by a security guard that a fire had broken out, but all press were barred from entering. At the meantime, there is no official confirmation, and it is not possible to contact a spokesperson from Foxconn. There were rumors about a dozen workers had been injured, but they were treated inside the plant instead of bringing them to the hospital. The reason for this is because the company does not want anymore negative reports from the media.

China Government Requests Censorship On Foxconn News

According to one of the Hong Kong English newspaper report, the Chinese Government and authorities request all press media in China to use the official news from Xinhua when they report Foxconn suicide case. All news website have to remove all special reports on Foxconn and major forums are requested to delete related posts, and no new post is allowed to go public. So at the moment, major press media in China are only allowed to republish the news from three sources, Xinhua News Agency which is owned by the Government, the Government Press Release and Foxconn’s own statement.

More Suicide Attempts From Foxconn ?

Some of the popular major websites (Link 1, Link 2, Link 3) have reported that the 14, 15 and even 16th jump have taken place. The source came from Twitter and several forums in China. In the meantime, there is no official words from any authorities regarding the issues. According to China Business News report, the Chinese government has sent in a special investigation team to handle the mess, so we guess censorship has been activated on the major news report in China. Foxconn’s CEO Gou Tai-ming had made another trip back to the plant, no public appearance yet, so web rumors are flying off.

At the meantime, more news report on the 13th suicide attempt. The incident was rumored as the 13th jump of Foxconn, and the company has already officially denied the rumor. The incident happened on May 27th early morning, there was an employee attempted to slit her wrists and survived after medical treatment. According to Xinhua news report, another Foxconn employee has committed suicide last night. This latest death comes just hours after Foxconn held a huge conference meeting with the press to clarify the suicide tragedy. Take a note on what Foxconn CEO said yesterday, “I cannot guarantee that similar deaths will not happen again, but we are doing our utmost to look after and care more for our staff“. So 12 suicide attempts, 10 deaths, we have enough for this. The news on this whole insane incident has over-boiled. Are we getting some sort of suicide count-down for the new iPhone announcement next month ? Or curse !?

Foxconn CEO Apology
Gou Tai-Ming apologized to the public.

Foxconn has invited more than a hundred journalists including international press, to visit the production line in Shenzhen factory this morning. Foxconn’s CEO Terry Gou has attended the event. Foxconn has arrange 6 tour bus to bring the press into the industrial park, Gou even get on to every tour bus to greet all the journalists, immediately he was surrounded by hundreds of reporters for up to 10 minutes. One of the victim’s family, wearing in white, arrive to the scene and call for innocence. The press conference has ended and Terry Gou has explained to the press how they are going to take care of their employees from the suicide tragedy.
