
Lenovo, the world’s second largest PC maker from China, has released what it claims to be the world’s smallest desktop PC. The new IdeaCentre Q180 certainly is pretty tiny, especially when the device is split into half to remove the optical drive. It can be placed vertically or horizontally, with a sleek chassis of only 155 x 192 x 22 mm, not much larger than a DVD case. Of course, user are not going to do heavy gaming on a rig like this, but the machine does look like it will make a decent HTPC to put inside your living room …

China has already overtook the US in both PC sales and shipments, now China overtook the U.S. again as the world’s largest smartphone market by volume in the third quarter of 2011. According to Strategy Analytics’ report, shipments of smartphones in China grew 58% in the third quarter from the previous quarter to 24 million units. In the U.S., smartphone shipments fell 7% to 23 million units. China’s rapid growth has been driven by an increasing availability of smartphones in retail channels. Nokia currently leads China’s smartphone market with 28 percent share …

The demand for 3D Television is expected to pick up soon on the grounds that the Chinese government will begin trial operations of 3D TV channels starting 2012. The authorities encourage Chinese consumers to pick up 3D TVs as the government-backed China Central Television will broadcast the London Olympic Games using 3D technology for next year. Most of the branded TV vendors in China have already adopted aggressive pricing strategies to promote sales of 3D TVs. Some domestic brand vendors have slashed the prices of 42-inch model to around 5,000 yuan (US$787) …

China’s internet speed and broadband charges have long been drawing Chinese netizens’ concerns. Recently, one of China’s telecom experts claimed that China’s internet speed is above average with low charges. Such a claim was questioned by most netizens. According to some analysis report which had issued last year, with income gap adjusted, China’s broadband has charged 124 times more then South Korea, but provides unsatisfactory network speeds. Nokia has launched an online video marketing campaign for their latest smartphone N9 in China. The two and a half minutes video is stated as ‘micro-movie’ titled ‘Unfollow’, featuring the local famous actress and singer, Fan Bing-bing. lt is a stylistic advertisement part of the China marketing campaign for the new Nokia N9. The campaign went viral immediately when the video first appeared on Sina weibo (aka China ‘twitter’). It has generated nearly 13,000 comments and an astonishing 227,000 retweets. The video has been watched nearly a million times on Youku, the China’s biggest video-sharing site …

A U.S. House Intelligence Committee is launching an investigation against Chinese telecommunication equipment suppliers Huawei and ZTE, to find whether they have pose a security threat to the country. The investigation will examine if Huawei’s and ZTE’s expansion into the U.S. market gives the Chinese government an opportunity to hijack the nation’s infrastructure to conduct espionage. U.S. lawmakers worry that the networking equipment sold could secretly contain Chinese military technology to spy and interfere with U.S. telecommunications …

The map service provided by Baidu have always been a bit more reliable that Google’s when it comes to China, because of its home field advantage. But Baidu Map lacked one of the Google’s coolest features, the satellite view. The Chinese search engine giant has finally added this long-waiting feature for the Chinese user. Baidu Map now supports three view modes: Map, Satellite and 3D, it is a bit surprise that Baidu Map just gets it launched today after years’ of operation. Two months ago, some China environmental protection groups have accused Apple for polluting the country. According to these groups, as many as 27 suspected suppliers have been accused of releasing pollution and carcinogens. An old Chinese businessman has been awarded a patent by the Chinese authorities for his proposal to grow Chinese tea by using panda’s poop as fertilizer. The former university lecturer will soon start planting his experimental “panda tea” in a tea garden near Chengdu, Southwest China (Chengdu is the habitat of Chinese pandas). The “panda tea” will be the world’s most expensive tea, pegged at about US$34,500 per 500 grams, which is expected first batch to be picked up next spring. The independent inventor has sent out invitation through local media, summoning scientists from around the world to sample his fresh “panda tea” next spring …
