
China’s homegrown smartphone brand Xiaomi is increasingly looking like Apple. After the launch of Xiaomi Mi-Two, the company has announced the release of its latest product — Xiaomi Box. It’s a set top box that looks very alike to Apple TV, but offers at a very tempting price. Although China has a flood of cheap Android TV dongles and set-top boxes , Xiaomi Box is still arguably competitive.

We spotted some international anime character’s mock-ups including Pokémon’s Pikachu, Naruto, Snow White and Avatar, in an animation festival held in China earlier this month. Guess what? Pikachu has became a creepy yellowish monster; Snow White became a white lady with cock eye; Spider-man wore white sneakers. Photos after the jump.

After Apple’s new iPhone 5 has cleared the second-to-last hurdle standing in the way of its debut in China, everyone is waiting for China Unicom and China Telecom to begin selling the device by the Christmas and New Year holidays. Few days ago, it was confirmed that China Unicom will launch the iPhone 5 by 20th Nov, and China Telecom will arrive later than China Unicom in late November or early December.

Alright, guys. This may sounds a bit ridiculous. But “Big Cola” is a new Chinese smartphone brand, which is an English translation of the company’s name “Dakele” in Chinese. The company recently held a launch event in Beijing and announced a 5-inch smartphone that only priced at 999 yuan (around USD$160). At this price point, Big Cola smartphone could offer you a 5-inch 960×640 display, a dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB ROM, 5.0 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2,450 mAh battery and runs Android 4.0. Goophone i5 is a brilliant iPhone 5 knockoff which launched in China before Apple announced the iPhone 5. Recently, the Chinese media got the knockoff device and it’s just funny to see the Goophone i5 is packed inside a secret agent-style aluminum alloy suitcase. Since the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini still haven’t launch in China yet, there’s no scalpers waiting outside of the Shenzhen Apple Store Grand Opening. Despite, it still attracted over thousands of people lining up…just for the celebration. Only few hundreds of people in the queue were real Apple fans. The rest of them lined up because they thought there were something special giving out for free, while some were just enjoying the celebration’s atmosphere. Recent report revealed China’s plan of making a supercomputer “Tianhe-2″ that could run at an extremely high 100-petaflop, which will be five-times faster than “Titan”, the world’s fastest supercomputer at 20 petaflops in U.S. This is not China’s first attempt at building a supercomputer. Back in 2010, China launched “Tianhe-1A“, which is one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers that could run at 4.7 petaflops.

Affordable quad-core smartphones are everywhere in China. The cheapest one is just around $160 USD, which is the ZTE U950 that we reported few days ago. Taiwanese chipset maker MediaTek is reportedly to bring 8-core mobile processor MTK6599 to the Chinese market, which is likely to support 4G LTE, TD-SCDMA and WCDMA network. ZTE is rumored to be the first smartphone maker to equip MediaTek 8-core processor, and it might land in China as soon as next year.

In a move of unanticipated benevolence, China’s 3C (China compulsory certification) appeared to have approved Sony’s video game console PS3. However, it does not imply Sony can officially announce PS3 in China too soon, it still might needs several other approvals from other departments in order to sell its consoles legally in the country. Many netizens are feeling happy and excited after the news was spread.
