Hong Kong Computer Festival

If you are a geek living in Hong Kong, there’s an awesome computer festival for you. The local geeks will do crazy shopping with those incredible deals and the festival can save you hundreds of dollars on big-ticket electronics. It’s just like the Black Friday in the US, but you can only shop for gadgets.

This year’s computer festival is quite exciting, with two different spots for the locals to do the shopping. People can choose to go to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre or the Golden Computer Shopping Arcade which is located at the gadget heaven, Sham Shui Po. You need HK$20 (about $2.50) admission fee to visit the event at the Exhibition Centre, while the one organized at Golden Arcade does not need any entry fee. Of course, you need to queue up for the best deals such as HK$1 Toshiba 2GB SD card, HK$29 Philips surround speaker system, HK$699 Acer 19-inch LCD monitor, and more…

The entrance of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, the computer festival only lasted for three days at there.

Over hundreds of people waiting in line to enter the event hall, the exhibition would only open to public starting from 10am till 10:30pm.

The best deal is the HK$1 Toshiba 2GB SD card, but there’s only 30 in stocks everyday, and only one for every customers.

There’s a lot of booths in the exhibition, most of them are selling laptops, netbooks, HDTVs, USB thumb drives, and memory cards.

You can get Logitech keyboard and mouse for very cheap price, we see a wireless keyboard and mouse set selling for just HK$99! (about $13)

The speaker sets are not as cheap as we thought, the HK$29 surround speaker system was sold out very quickly.

HK$799 (about $100) for a BenQ 19-inch LED monitor, HK$999 (about $128) for a BenQ 22-inch LCD monitor. Quite cheap.

Umm… I’m not interested with printers…

Kingmax USB thumb drive, HK$59 (about $7) for 4GB, HK$105 ($13) for 8GB and HK$199 ($25) for 16GB. You can also get a wireless mouse from EagleTec for just HK$69 (about $9).

Laptops and netbooks from Acer. Not my cup of tea.

Monitors, laptops, netbooks are all over the place!

HK$699 for an Acer 19-inch LCD monitor, this is the cheapest in the whole exhibition.

Lots of TopCon HDTVs and iDTVs are put up for promotion.

Samsung is here too! Lots of choices for customers!

We saw this while we are exploring for cheap stuff… The little girl is forgetting her Barbie doll…

Anyone knows what are they doing with the wall of displays?

Kingston memory cards and USB thumb drives… I think there are some fakes in there…

The portable hard drives from Western Digital, the 1TB Elements 3.5″ is quite cheap, for just HK$569 (about $73).

More choices from WD…

AData is giving lots of offers, I could not stand it anymore… Where’s the ATM machine?

Get this and you can let your iPhones and iPads to connect to the internet anywhere, anytime.

The RAMs are not cheap, we think it’s the same price as what we always see in the computer malls.

Yeah, there are lots of booth girls around the place, geeks can enjoy shopping while looking at these pretty girls.

Give me more smiles! I’m loving it!

I do not really care what are they holding…

Well, I will buy that antivirus software if one of the girls gives me a kiss.

Surprisingly, there are iPad knockoffs at here!

These are the cheapskate stuff I have been looking for.

Alkaline batteries for sale! HK$10 (about $1) for a pack of 8 .

Or you can choose the Sanyo eneloop rechargeable batteries.

Another big surprise in the exhibition is the Toshiba Libretto W100 Dual-Screen Laptop PC. It’s available for sale right here and it costs HK$10,880 (about $1389). Looks pretty cool but I got an iPad already.

The Lensbaby is available too! And lots of camera accessories.

At the other side, Golden Computer Shopping Arcade, there’s also lots of people doing their summer shopping here. The deals and offers are almost the same, the only difference is that no admission fee is required.

People are comparing the prices and looking out for the best deals they could get. Here are some videos showing how’s the situation looks like.

Sure, there are some great deals, but not as cheap as we thought. Anyway, it’s still the best place to get the gadgets you want, especially the HDTVs and laptops. We don’t see any Apple stuff here and we almost wasted several hours to check out the real savings we could get. We got some special goodies back, photos of the booth girls at the exhibition. I will show you the beautiful girls in my next post, please stay tuned…
