Big party for Foxconn workers, end of suicide ? (with video!)

Foxconn’s workers attend a rally held by the company at its Shenzhen factory, more than 20,000 workers took part in the rally, titled “Love Your Life, Love Your Family”. The purpose for the activity is to strengthen the cohesion among workers and encourage them to treasure life. Foxconn also announced the end of its “emergency status” to prevent the suicide attempts of its employees at their China factories. The company also has decided to remove the safety nets which has surrounded the factory building to prevent workers from jumping down. The campaign marked the transition of the Foxconn’s employees’ caring project, which involved emergency psychology consultations to daily caring work schemes. Three months ago, Foxconn was plagued by a series of employees’ suicides at Shenzhen factory, which aroused public concern and accusations about working conditions. Apart from building about 3 million square meter of safety nets on buildings in all of Foxconn’s industrial parks, the company announced two raises since early June, more than doubling the basic worker pay to 2,000 yuan (US$293) a month.

At the end of the rally, the vice president of Foxconn speaks to the media, he said the company hopes that these type of activities will reduce employees’ stress and make everyone aware that life is priceless and one should also be responsible for their family members. He futher mentioned that Foxconn would not leave Shenzhen City, the number of workers in Shenzhen would be reduced to about 300,000 from the current 450,000, and it would be developed into a research and development hub, and the logistics center of Foxconn.

Well, three months ago, everyone think that Foxconn workers are working inside a hell factory. Today, foxconn workers are telling the whole world they love CEO Terry Goh and fully support their company … are all this some sort of PR job to show the public, Foxconn has now become a wonderful place to work in !?
