Hackers use Chinese IPs to launch attacks

The internet is not safe, and hackers are found to be making use of computers in China to launch cyber attacks over the world. Beijing had held an annual gathering of senior cyber security analysts to discuss about this, and it looks like participants have some interesting thoughts:

“For example, there might be a hacker in America, he might attack a computer in China first and then use the Chinese IP to attack a computer in Australia and so on”

In some cases, the cyber attacks are launched by foreign hacker. Even though it’s very complicated to locate an original attack, a consultant from a software company thinks that overseas hackers link to computers in China so their victims believe they were attacked from China. What’s more, according to Chinese National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team, over 1 million Chinese IPs were under overseas control in 2009, so we’re guessing the hackers do have the chance to use Chinese IPs to launch attacks and let the victims blame China for that. Well, this is smart.

I’m sure that’s what the “People’s Daily” would say, but the reality is that there is a mountain of evidence that shows the PRC is either sponsoring the attacks at worst, or turning a blind eye at best. Though almost everyone believes the PRC is involved.
