Google “Fully Blocked” in China was a Status Error

Google Blocked temporarily

Yesterday, Google got fully blocked in Mainland China again, but this was just an status error. TechCrunch reported hearing back from Google, it was just a false alarm. Google is back to normal now.

This was the diagram that shown on the 29th of July, you can see “partially blocked”.

Today, the icon was changed to “Information available” where it was shown blocked yesterday. And, everything is back to normal now.

Google has gone on the record to explain that the “fully blocked” status message users were seeing on the status tool was a bit buggy:

Because of the way we measure accessibility in China, it’s possible that our machines could overestimate the level of blockage. That seems to be what happened last night when there was a relatively small blockage. It appears now that users in China are accessing our properties normally.

Please also note that the dashboard is not a real time tool.
