Panda Suddenly Dies At A Chinese Zoo

On the 22nd of July, around 10 at night, Panda “Quan Quan” suddenly died in Jinan Zoo. According to Environmental testing, Panda Dissection and Police informed, a large amount strong irritant gas was inhaled by the Panda, which led to respiratory failure.

Deputy secretary of Party Branch of Jinan Zoo, Liu Jungang said, strong irritant gas was discharged from a venting hole that connected to the Panda’s Pavilion. After police’s site investigation, irritant gas was produced by disinfection and sterilization, therefore a large amount of toxic gas was discharged from the venting hole.
Liu Jungang mentioned, that venting hole was set up in 1995 in order for adjusting the temperature of the panda’s pavilion, it was used until now. Once the staffs found smoke in panda pavilion, they had immediately let the panda got out to the outside yard, the panda appeared suspected poisoning symptoms. Rescue workers conduct Oxygen, cardiac compression, cardiac and respiratory stimulant injection, infusion and other measures. As the same time, the Zoo had sought Jinan Military General Hospital for help, and also alarmed police. After rescued for 3 hours, the panda was reported death.
