iPhone 4 for Hong Kong gets launch party, contract-free price, and maybe white model

Sure, we in the Hong Kong are pretty much excited with coming Friday, that’s the day iPhone 4 will officially come to HK, kicking out those insane gray markets. So, what celebration do we have here? Well, we have launch party in several areas at midnight, and some goodies such as cheap data plans and contract-free prices. And one more thing, white iPhone 4 might be available…

Hey, I have waited for this moment since iPhone 4 officially launched in the US. It’s been a long wait, and I’m suffering from “iPhone-fever”… So, I need to tell you something first, the iPhone 4 for Hong Kong is fully unlocked, and you can get it from three local carriers, with affordable data plans.

Way back in 2007, there’s only one local carrier launching the iPhone 3G, and that’s 3HK. For now, SmarTone Vodafone and one2free have joined in the game, and the locals are still deciding which one is the best for them to sign the irritating 2-year contract.

The locals can make registration for the iPhone 4, and wait for 3HK to notify them.

First, for 3HK, they have not announced the data plans yet and they are planning to show off the plans during the launch. They have decided to hold a launch party at a restaurant on the 29th, at 9pm. They called the party as “3ree iPhone Night”. Customers are not allowed to walk in the party to get one, only VIP members of 3HK are invited to purchase the phone. Celebrities are also invited to the party.

SmarTone Vodafone did a good job on arranging the launch. They have organized a launch party at a shopping mall, and 2000 registered customers are invited to the party. It will start at 11pm, on the 29th, and there will be music performance, a mini buffet, and mini games in the party. Most importantly, customers need to choose the data plans and sign them right on the spot, since the plans would only be revealed at that time. We believe this party is the most popular one in the city. For those customers who are not invited to the party, they could purchase the phone next day at all SmarTone Vodafone stores.

one2free should be the only carrier revealing the data plans now. Customers could choose the “unlimited” smartphone data plan: $439 HKD (about $56) per month for unlimited 3G data usage and 3900 minutes of talking duration. For the handset price, it’s $0 HKD for 16GB and $588 HKD (about $75) for 32GB. Sadly, it’s a two-year contract. For the launch party, one2free would hold it at the Peak, and that’s midnight too, at 12am, on the 30th (or I call that 29th). Also, only invited customers are allowed to purchase at that time.

Next, the online Apple store would provide contract-free iPhone 4 on the 30th. The price is amazing, $4988 for 16GB and $5888 for 32GB. All Hong Kong dollars, of course — the US conversion would be about $642 / $758, respectively. And as a bonus, the iPhone 3GS would be available too, $4088 (about $526) for 8GB version. All these prices are unconfirmed yet.

I know you are anxious to get a white iPhone 4. Apparently, there’s lots of rumors in Hong Kong saying that the local carriers would provide a few white iPhone 4. We can’t find any proofs for this, and we’re guessing it’s not possible since Apple has delayed it again. However, there’s a DIY service in the gray market of Hong Kong. If you have a black iPhone 4, you can replace all the black parts with white ones. to get a white iPhone 4. There’s a store providing this modification service and they would be charging you for $2800 HKD (about $360). The modified product is near perfect, only lack of the 16GB or 32GB words on the back.

Since I have been wishing for an iPhone 4, I’m all ready to go for one of the launch party. Probably the one organized by SmarTone Vodafone. Since I’m not invited to any of these parties, but I would try my best to persuade the staff to let me in… Please stay tuned for my updates !
