Yeah, phones aren’t perfect, especially smartphones. Steve Jobs has showed us that some smartphones have the same attenuation and signal loss issue that the iPhone 4 has. He’s actually right about that. Apparently, the smartphones in the Chinese market are having reception problems, such as the Meizu M8 and Lenovo LePhone…
Alright, the M8 and the LePhone are the iPhone-killers in China. Chinese consumers would purchase one of these phones if they could not afford an iPhone, or dislike the iPhone knockoff. However, both of the smartphones contain reception problems…
The Lenovo Lephone
Lots of customers are complaining that the phone has bad reception. The complaints are non-stop. According to a Guangzhou LePhone user, the 3G network reception of LePhone is weak, he could only get two or three bars while other 3G smartphones could show FULL bars at the same location. Not only that, the reception is weaker in indoors. The user also stated that if he grips the phone in a normal way, the signal will drop instantly. Due to the weak 3G signal, this user has disabled the 3G functions and he’s forced to stay with the 2G network.

According to a Chinese consumer reporting site, there’s a total of 106 complaints from users stating that the LePhone has reception issues. These complaints are collected from June 19th to July 9th, just within a month. Lenovo has been concerning with these complaints and they have admitted the reception issues on the LePhone, a software update is then released to fix the issue.
The Meizu M8
Looks like the phone itself has no responds to incoming calls. Yup, some users don’t see the M8 ringing when calls are coming in. A Chinese news reporter said that he tried to call his friend who is using a M8, the phone call is connected but there’s no one answering… After that, the friend told the reporter that his M8 didn’t receive any incoming calls, not even showing a missing call. Well, maybe it’s not the antenna’s fault, but Meizu is really kind to fix these reception issues by providing free replacement for the phone.

By now, we have seen all kinds of smartphones facing signal loss issue, such as Nokia, Blackberry RIM, Samsung… So, do you really think your phone is working bad by looking at those signal bars decreasing when you are gripping it? Come on, guys! Phones aren’t perfect.
