Xbox 360 Kinect Not to Debut China

The Kinect is a camera for Xbox 360 which makes gaming more exciting. It’s coming soon this November but it will not be introduced in China, according to Michel Van Der Bel, COO of Microsoft (China) Co., Ltd.
Due to the laws and regulations of the Chinese government, any company or individual is not allowed to produce and sell electronic game equipment and accessories to China. This notice is issued by the Ministry of Culture in June 2000. The regulation first suspended the plan of Sony Corporation to launch PS2 in the Chinese market. For the time being, Chinese game lovers could still buy game consoles including PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii through the gray markets, except the Nintendo DS series.
The NDS is available in China officially, but you can only buy it through Nintendo’s Chinese joint venture, iQue.

So, the Kinect is not available for sale in China because of policy restriction. When Michel Van Der Bel was being asked whether Microsoft has tried to negotiate with Chinese government agencies, he has not formally responded, only saying that a global company should abide by the laws and regulations of the local government. By looking at this, we’re guessing the Chinese game lovers need to buy the Kinect through other ways for a slightly higher price tag.
