China Former Microsoft Chief Faked His Academic Credentials ?

Former CEO of Microsoft China Tang Jun, was reported that he has faked his academic credentials in the United States. Tang Jun, is well known as the most valuable professional manager in China, was appointed as the president of Microsoft China in 2002. A Chinese guy called Fang Zhouzi, who is known as a “science cop” for battling against pseudoscience and academic misconduct, accused Tang of fabricating a doctoral degree from California Institute of Technology. Fang Zhouzi began to make accusations against Tang on his own microblog, he checked the names of graduates from CIT’s computer science department and failed to find the name ‘Jun Tang’, the name that Tang used when he entered Microsoft in 1994.

Tang Jun joined Microsoft in 1994 and was appointed president of Microsoft China in 2002. He received the Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates Award in 1998 and the Microsoft Top Honor Award in 2002, and remains the honorary president of Microsoft China. After serving in Microsoft for ten years, Tang Jun chose to join Shanda, a famous interactive entertainment media company in China. Tang has explore his genius in IT entertainment management and helped the company to reestablish its leading power in domestic online gaming industry. After four years as the president of Shanda, Tang left the company and headed to a Fujian-based company called New Huadu, as their CEO and president. General merchandises, engineering projects, tourism and mining industry are the company main business.
Having brought ice-breaking success to both Microsoft China and Shanda during his tenures, Tang has been crowned as the most valuable professional manager in China, he was also crowned as China’s “emperor employee” with an annual salary of 100 million RMB (14 million U.S. dollars). After Tang Jun announced to resign from Shanda in 2008, he had came under the media spotlight, because he would hop to a new company with a transfer fee of one billion RMB (143 million U.S. dollars). This number has even exceeded the transfer fee of British soccer player David Beckham. Tang had written a book called ‘My Success Could Be Duplicated’, inside his book he stated that he received a doctoral degree in computer science, from the famous California Institute of Technology.

So the summary of the whole story, a clever Chinese faked his academic credentials, and made Microsoft believe that he was professional enough to become CEO for the China branch, he made some success for Microsoft China, get well-known for his genius management, later jumpship to online gaming industry, get even more success and earning million annual salary, and attract more company willing to hire him to manage their business. It’s really ridiculous, that’s why Tang Jun want to tell the Chinese ‘My Success Could Be Duplicated’! (only in China … )
