China Clamping Down On Online Gaming Market

If you are an online gaming geek in China, here’s a bad news for you. The Chinese government will start to collect your personal information before you can play games online, this means that one needs to go through a registration process with a valid identity. What’s more, game providers will also be banned from offering unsuitable games to youngsters.

Starting from August 1, China will start to introduce a set of rules on the online gaming market, like requiring online game companies to self-censor. This applies to all domestic and imported role-playing and social networking games. Moreover, state media reported last month that authorities would introduce a system requiring web users to provide their real names before posting comments online. Looks like one has no privacy when he’s surfing the net in China.

According to AFP, we are shocked to know that China’s online population has reached 404 million earlier this year, and the number of young Internet addicts was estimated at around 24 million last year. This proves that the Chinese government has to do something to stop the rapid growth of Chinese Internet addicts. Actually, we have gone through the registration process in which our names and ID are needed before we can go online at the internet bars in Shenzhen. So, we think the new rule doesn’t make any difference with the rules at Internet bar now.
