Foxconn Stops Recruitment, iPhone 4 Delay?

After the 2 times of wages increase and stop giving suicide compensation, Foxconn latest action is suspension of recruitment. According to China Business News report, Foxconn has stopped all recruitment in Shenzhen since May 29th and there is no further detail on when is the next recruitment. Before the suspension, Foxconn recruits about 7,000 to 8,000 new employees per day, and starting from April, the management has already re-adjusted the duration of the overtime work, to a limit of 2 hours per employee. So Foxconn has stopped recruitment and carried out overtime control, will they be able to complete the new orders from Apple?

At the meantime, a lot of job seekers, who come from other provinces of China, have gone to Shenzhen to seek for Foxconn’s jobs, and they are waiting for the new recruitment over there. Foxconn CEO Guo Tai-ming has mentioned that the company might move the main production line back to Taiwan, or even to the North and Westward of China, where some of the Provinces can provide lower labor cost. Chongqing, a major city in southwestern China, is Foxconn’s next target. New recruitment has been carried out over there, an estimate of 12 thousands workers will be in operation by end of the year in Chongqing’s new factory plant. So the suspension of recruitment might hints that Foxconn is really planning for a production shift. We hope that this will not affect iPhone 4 availability since iPad international launch has been delayed before. 24 million units by the end of this year, no joke for Foxconn.
And for the above cartoon picture, it describes CEO Guo Tai-ming is running away from Shenzhen, carrying his company Hon Hai and production workers, moving to the north side of China, this is due to economic crisis and cost controlling.
