How Chinese Media Use Comics To Criticize Foxconn Tragedy

Comics

Here we have found some interesting comics which were created by the Chinese media for putting into their articles of Foxconn tragedy. These comics may act as a criticism or jokes on the suicides in Foxconn’s factory.

Comic 1

This comic shows the high building of Foxconn with a signboard put on top saying “Suicide is Forbidden, Suicide is harmful to health”. And the man (representing Foxconn) pointing at the signboard says “We have tried our best”, and the man with white costume says “I think is a problem of Feng shui “. So, Foxconn needs to be oriented.

Comic 2

In this comic, it shows three little black guys (representing Foxconn workers) who are thinking to get compensation from the judge, but the judge (representing Foxconn) says “Impossible!” This reflects what Liu Zhiyi has said in his phone interview — when the Foxconn workers discussed about those suicides, some of them think those victims have become well-known and famous, and other will guess, because their family are so poor, if they commit suicide, Foxconn will pay some money to their family as compensation.

Comic 3

In this pic, the purple guy (representing Foxconn) says “Master! Please stop them from jumping!”. “Master” refers to the Buddhist monks hired by Foxconn. Then, the Buddhist monk listens and pray for the victims.

Comic 4

In this pic, a Buddhist monk is giving his prayer bead to the guy (representing Foxconn) in brown suit. In return, “Foxconn” says “We are counting on you, Master!”
A Buddhist monk always wear the prayer bead on his neck and he will not give this prayer bead to another person. So, this comic shows the Buddhist monk is giving up his prayer bead to Foxconn and this action tells us that the monk will ask Foxconn to pray for themselves instead..

These comics bring a sense of humor to readers but is it really okay to make jokes with this Foxconn tragedy?
