Top 10 Chinese Knockoff Netbooks

Roundup

When the ultimate MacBook Air knockoff came out, we were impressed. Readers asked what else they could see in China’s knockoff netbook market. Here are ten nice ones for your needs—nearly all cost less, and better in some ways, than the originals.

10th – Acer Aspire One D150 Knockoff

I hope you still remember Acer’s first 10-inch netbook. This knockoff, X31, includes an Atom N270 processor, 1GB RAM, 120GB or 250GB hard drive, 10.2 inch display (1024×600), Ethernet port, Wi-Fi, 3-in-1 card reader and three USB ports. The netbook’s finishing looks good and it’s priced at $1700 Chinese Yuan (about $249). You can add an Acer logo on it for just $20 Chinese Yuan (about $3) when you are buying the machine.

9th – 11.6-inch Knockoff Netbook With Built-in CD/DVD ROM Drive

This is the only knockoff netbook bringing you a CD/DVD ROM Drive with no additional cost needed. It includes an Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM, 160GB hard drive, Wi-Fi, Ethernet port, a SD-card slot, VGA port and only one USB port. It’s the first knockoff netbook featuring an 11-inch display (1366×768). For just $2600 Chinese Yuan (about $380), it’s okay to get one if you beg to have an included CD/DVD ROM Drive while keeping the small size form factor for a portable laptop.

8th – Sony Vaio P Knockoff

This bad boy pretends to be as small as the Vaio P and brings you a bigger screen. It includes an 10.1-inch display (1024×600), an 1.66GHz Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Wifi, two USB ports, VGA out, Ethernet port, microphone & speaker jack and finally, a SD-card slot. Just like the original, you get a TrackPoint nub instead of a touchpad. It supports 3G and with its 3-cell battery, you only get an hour and a half of battery life. Anyway, by looking at its $1700 Chinese Yuan (about $249) price tag, it’s definitely worth a try for stuffing into your pocket.

7th – MSI X340 Knockoff

This is a great copy which looks like the MSI X340 and it may be as thin as the MacBook Air. This knockoff is a 13-inch ULV based system and it’s powered by a 1.2GHz Intel (ULV) processor. Amazingly, the laptop weighs just 3 pounds with its 4-cell battery. It comes with 13-inch (1366×768) display, 1GB of RAM, 160GB or 250GB hard drive, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. What’s more, users get three USB ports, VGA & HDMI ports, Ethernet port, SD-card slot and audio jacks. For the price of $2400 Chinese Yuan (about $350), it’s best for people who can’t even afford the MSI’s MacBook Air knockoff. However, you need to make a deep search for this in Shenzhen to get yourself one.

6th – Dell Adamo Knockoff

With a Ferrari-red paint job, this Dell Adamo knockoff is much more outstanding than the original. It has got a low-end and a high-end model for you to choose. The high-end model is a better choice since it features an Intel ULV processor instead of the crappy Atom, and you get better graphics performance with its GMA X4500 graphics. Starting from $1900 Chinese Yuan (about $278), it’s good to get one if you are pissed off with the high price tag of the original.

5th – Slim, Lighter Aluminium Sony Vaio P Knockoff

This is another Vaio P knockoff featuring aluminium body and better design. It has got a 10-inch (1024×600) display and includes a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor, 1GB of RAM, up to 160GB of HDD (1.8 inch, 4200 rpm), Wi-Fi, SD card slot, SIM card slot and two USB ports. Lacking of Ethernet port and VGA port, it’s maybe alright for you with its considerable price of $2500 RMB (about $359).

4th – HP Mini 5101/5102 Knockoff

This seems to be one of our favorites so far. It looks and feels exactly like the original. It’s powered with the new pine-trail platform featuring an Atom N450 processor running at 1.66GHz and GMA 3150 graphics. Surprisingly, it’s upgraded to an 11-inch (1366×768) display since we only get a corny 10-inch screen on the original. Available in 3 different colors, you can get one for just $2000 Chinese Yuan (about $293). The HP logo will only be added if you pay another $20 Chinese Yuan (about $3).

3rd – 11.6 inch MacBook Air Knockoff

Ever wish to see a MacBook mini? The knockoff makers can provide one for you. It almost as thin as the original and comes with an Apple logo. Well, you may think it’s bullshit to own a netbook since the iPad is borned. But, with the price tag of $1750 Chinese Yuan (about $256), it’s no doubt to get it as a backup computer.

2nd – MacBook Pro Knockoff

This MacBook Pro knockoff comes with an aluminium body and by comparing with the MacBook Air knockoff, you get a faster processor, faster graphic, faster everything. Not as powerful as the original, I’m sure you would not mind it by looking at its price first, just $3299 RMB (about $480).

1st – 13.3 inch Macbook Air Knockoff with Glowing Apple Logo

Hands-On

If you are a fan of MIC gadget, I dare you had seen this knockoff netbook before. This is the best MacBook Air wannabe ever, featuring a real glowing Apple logo and it’s almost as thin as the real one.

It’s powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and a 4-cell battery. Also, you get the support of 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi for this machine. This Macbook Air Wannabe is available for just $1950 Chinese Yuan (about $299) which is much more affordable than than Apple’s MacBook Air. Consequently, this Macbook Air Wannabe is therefore qualified as the most popular knockoff netbook of all time and the must-buy gadget when you are in China, Shenzhen.

These knock off products are no longer competitive in price. I can buy the originals for about the same price or cheaper (since there is no shipping cost to be added) from stores in the US.

IMO, Chinese product resellers are pricing items way to high.
