This is How Chinese Charging Their New iPads in Extreme Cold Weather

front

China is experiencing unusually cold weather this winter, with the national average temperature hitting the lowest point in 28 years. The national average temperature had been 25 degrees Fahrenheit since late November, the coldest in nearly three decades. Chinese Apple users find that they are having trouble charging their new iPads. While staying indoor at a room temperature of 3 to 5 degree celsius (37-41 degrees Fahrenheit), the cold weather will temporarily prevent the iPad’s battery from holding a charge. Once you move the iPad to a warmer area, its battery will hold its charge normally. Chinese users tried out some unforeseen methods to add juice to their iPad …

Rechargeable batteries operate in a wide temperature range but this does not give license to charge them at extreme temperatures. Extreme cold and high heat reduce charge acceptance, and the battery must be brought into moderate temperature conditions before charging. Many Chinese Apple users found out their new iPads are afraid of cold air and refuse to be charged. The most common method to solve the problem is to put their iPads inside warm bedsheet while charging. Some even try to use hot water bag to warm the back cover. We can also see people using heaters, hair dryer and their body heat to make their iPad stay warm. Well, the iPads are just becoming more humane because it needs to be served …

I have never encountered this type of problems, since every
household in the northeast of u.s. has a heater installed at home.

In southern part of China, lots of household doesn’t have a heater installed at home. While Northern China has provided natural gas pipeline connect to every household for central heating. Cities like Beijing and Shanghai are located in Northern China.

You don’t say! Well that certainly throws a new light on the Foxconn workers’ living condition in the south. No wonder they’d rather be spending more time slaving away in the sweatshop: central heating. If they’re deprived of heating, imagine what else they don’t have compared to all those bourgeois city slickers up north. Bastards!

Classical Chinese. Spend 5000 rmb (800 us) in an ipad but not invest in long term stuff like heating, thermal insulation or decent double glazed window.
Starchang – Shanghai is not part of the central heating area in china. I live there and houses are freaking cold! We have to use mostly AC (heat pump) for heating. Central hot water heating is reserved for North Yangtze cities.
