Alright, guys. This may sounds a bit ridiculous. But “Big Cola” is a new Chinese smartphone brand, which is an English translation of the company’s name “Dakele” in Chinese. The company recently held a launch event in Beijing and announced a 5-inch smartphone that only priced at 999 yuan (around USD$160). At this price point, Big Cola smartphone could offer you a 5-inch 960×640 display, a dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB ROM, 5.0 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2,450 mAh battery and runs Android 4.0. More info after the break.
The most common aspect ratios that being used on most Android handsets are 4:3 and 16:9, but Big Cola’s 5-inch display is 3:2 aspect ratio, which is the same as the aspect ratio of Apple’s iPhone 4S. Dakele claimed Big Cola smartphone’s 5-inch display is 10% bigger than other 5-inch devices.
Big Coke phone has a microSD card slot that supports 32GB of expansion, and dual-SIM card slots which supports both WCDMA and GSM network.
It comes with a 2450 mAh battery, which allows 12 hours of internet browsing or 10 hours of HD video playback.
Big Cola smartphone can install three custom Android ROMs, where users can easily switch from one custom Android ROM to another. The Android ROMs are customized by Baidu and Lewa. Moreover, this machine integrated all sorts of Chinese internet services including Sina Weibo, Baidu search, Taobao, iReader and LeTV on the machine, which allows users to access authorized movie contents and other premium contents on Big Cola smartphone more easily.
Dakele has three sales channels to reach customers — Dakele’s online store, Suning electronics retail store and China Unicom. Dakele prepared 60,000 units for sales at the first round, where 30,000 units will be sold through Suning and China Unicom. At the moment, Dakele is accepting pre-orders on its online store, orders will be shipped on the 20th of November. Seemingly, Big Cola’s business model is quite similar to Xiaomi Tech.
Overall, we think this is looking good. Big Cola smartphone is certainly an affordable 5-inch smartphone. The aspect ratio of its display and its switchable Android ROMs are something quite different and unique from other Android handsets. The lack of a quad-core processor might make this phone seems a bit weaker than the others, since quad-core processor has gradually became a standard configuration for most smartphones. Besides, the integrated apps and services are noteworthy. The integration of LeTV is pleasing, because it can provide many authorized movie contents, enhancing the user experience of watching movies on a smartphone.
