ASUS Plans to Sell Their Windows 8 Devices at Apple’s Current iPad Price

Asus will peg pricing of some upcoming Windows 8 devices to Apple’s new iPad. The company will “use the price of Apple’s new iPad as a reference” when pricing Windows 8 and Windows RT devices. According to a report from Digitimes, ASUS has “warned” Microsoft by saying, “if Microsoft launches its Surface at US$199 … it will cause difficulty for [the survival of] Asustek’s Windows-based tablet.” The Taiwanese vendor also mentioned that Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, which Asus manufactures, will provide a big boost for the company’s tablet shipments …

While Microsoft has yet to officially announce the price of their Microsoft Surface Windows 8 tablet, some have speculated that it could be priced at $199 which would make it a pretty competitive offering against Amazon’s Kindle Fire and the Google Nexus 7. Microsoft’s OEM partners weren’t too thrilled about the software giant is making their own hardware since the prices Microsoft uses could work against their partners. We can fully understand why Asus will look to the iPad for pricing guidance and issues a warning to Microsoft about Surface tablet pricing.
