Chinese beachgoers wear body suits and protective head masks, dubbed “facekinis”, on a crowded public beach in Qingdao city, located in eastern Shandong province, Eastern China. Last year, we have already seen this kind of ‘high-tech’ anti-tanning swimwear. This year it becomes a trend in Qingdao city. The masks are made of a stretchy fabric that is commonly used in bathing suits and can be accompanied by apparel that covers other parts of the body, such as the arms. The mask was invented by a local about seven years ago and is now being mass produced. This is the newest way for Chinese people, especially old ladies, trying to prevent themselves from getting a tan while sitting on the beach. The “facekinis” is selling at a price for US$2, some local residents are making their own out of old clothes. More hilarious pictures after the break.
