Baidu’s Employees Got Bribed To Control News Contents

Baidu-Go-Fetch

Baidu recently has fired several employees because they have been deleting users’ post for cash, and police became involved due to the large amount of money involved. It appeared to be a way for companies to keep its reputation clean among the public by removing negative press and reviews from websites.

If companies do not want to risk for bribery, they could employ “professional post-deleting” companies to remove negative messages in a legit way. Here is a fee schedule from a post-deleting company named Beijing Haotian Lianmeng:

  • 1,000 yuan ($159) to delete an article from forums.

  • 2,000 yuan to remove one from a blog.

  • 3,000 yuan to delete a piece of news posted on a news portal.
  • In long term, some post-deleting companies offer annual service which costs around 150,000 yuan ($24,000) to 200,000 ($32,000) yuan a year.
