China’s population is over 1.3 billion, the largest of any country in the world and properly there is quite a lot of people love playing basketball. Even folks in remote villages have a hoop. But oftentimes the courts are makeshift or deteriorating, leaving young kids and old without much of a legit chance to work on their game. The Jordan brand is producing a series of mini-documentaries about basketball around the world, and the crew went to a remote village in China, a place with barely any connection to civilization nor any modern technology, to film a story on how one man helping a small village to rebuild it’s broken down court …
Jordan Brand continues its ‘RiseAbove’ campaign with this mini doc on a certain rural China basketball court’s rebirth entitled “#RISEABOVE ISOLATION”. The short film has shown us the villagers possessed a strong passion for the game of basketball. Early this year, Michael Jordan has filed a lawsuit in Chinese court against Qiaodan Sports Company, charging them with using his name and playing number without permission. “Qiaodan” is a transliteration of the name Jordan has gone by in China since he and the NBA took China by storm in the‘80s and‘90s, transforming the country into a nation of basketball diehards. We just hope this mini-documentary won’t make any Chinese people confuse that it was produce by “Qiaodan”…
