Huawei is not restricting itself to the smartphone world, it’s releasing new Android tablets to challenge Apple and Google. After the announcement of the quad-core MediaPad 10 FHD that is slated for an August release, the Chinese handset company also officially unveiled its 7-inch slate, the MediaPad 7 Lite. Specifications of the device are still not available yet, but the product information page has shown us that MediaPad 7 Lite boasts features such as 1280 x 800 resolution display, Ice Cream Sandwich, 3G connectivity in a light and compact unibody design. The MediaPad 7 Lite has provided a rear camera (from the image) and it’s not sure whether the new tablet will come with an expandable memory option …
All we know is that the device will feature Android 4.0 ICS out of the box, so it’s unfortunately not going to be the first non-Nexus Android tablet featuring Jelly Bean. Specifications such as the processor, RAM, internal storage, etc. are still unknown. We believe Huwwei will somehow produce a cheap version of their in-house K3 quad-core processor specially for MediaPad 7 Lite. Information on pricing and release date is also unavailable, but a Q4 release is expected. We’ll have to wait and see whether the MediaPad 7 Lite is going to be a Nexus 7 competitor, but if the new slate only provides 3G version, it certainly won’t give us a low price at US$199 …
