HTC Launches Its Own Media Certification Program to Rival Apple’s AirPlay

HTC has announced the launch of HTC Connect, a new certification program that provides electronics manufacturers to certify their audio and video products for connectivity with HTC devices both in and outside the home. HTC says that its One series of smartphones will later receive an update, providing user with the necessary options to beam their audio and video to HTC Connect-enabled accessories. Pioneer is the first partner to feature HTC Connect compatibility in its 2012 line of products. The company expects to feature a number of DLNA capable audio and video receivers and audio speakers …

Smartphones are changing the way individuals listen to music and watch video, making it easier to enjoy multimedia content anywhere. The Taiwanese phone maker is working to bring the benefits and ease-of-use of mobile connected devices into the home through the HTC Connect initiative. The whole idea is somehow duplicated from Apple’s AirPlay technology.     This is the stupidest fucking thing they could ever do. The AirPlay standard is OPEN SOURCE. All they would need to do is implement the protocol themselves and they would have access to all existing AirPlay devices. I predict a major fail.
