It is no longer called the Meizu quad-core, Meizu announced its first quad-core Android phone as the “MX 4-core” in Hong Kong. The company partnered with a local carrier PCCW mobile and a local smartphone vendor to host this launching ceremony at W Hotel – a luxury hotel in Hong Kong. Lots of Hong Kong celebrities and sexy models arrived at the press, and they were invited to promote the quad-core speed and the voice function of Meizu MX. Check out the glorious launch with video and photos after the break.

The phone will be available in two versions (32GB & 64GB) through Meizu Store and two sales channels in Hong Kong. The contract-free Meizu MX is priced from 3,099 HKD ($400) to 4,099 HKD ($530). On the other hand, PCCW mobile will offer a two and a half years contract plan at 149 HKD ($24) per month. Meizu MX 4-core will begin to sell on the 30 June. The event also announced Meizu Flyme 1.0 — a customized Android 4.0 ROM, and we found it works quite similar to Xiaomi MIUI.

Although Meizu MX is not the first quad-core smartphone, it is certainly the cheapest quad-core phone so far. Currently, there’re two other choices of quad-core phones available in the market — Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. Noticeably, the Meizu MX 4-core only has a 1,700 mAh battery, which is about the same capacity as its dual-core version (1,600 mAh). Furthermore, Meizu MX is powered by the same processor as the Galaxy S3. However, Galaxy S3 has a battery of 2,100 mAh, which gives 8 hours of battery juice. In this sense, Meizu MX may only provides users with around 6 hours of battery life.

Last but not least, the CEO of Meizu Jack Wong recently disclosed that Meizu MX will gradually enter the U.S. market at the end of this year. And, we have a gallery of all the hot chicks at the event down below. Enjoy!
