More Chinese Prefer Using Smartphones Than Watching Television

OVER half of Chinese smartphone owners will soon to give up TV and stick only to their mobile devices. According to the survey done by Google and Ipsos Research company, 54 percent of Chinese consumers preferred mobile devices than watching television. About one-third of urban dwellers use their smartphones to do searches, surf the Internet, social networking, send e-mail and watch streaming video. China’s smartphone user base accounts for 33 percent of the nation’s total population, beating Germany’s 29 percent but still behind the 44 percent in the US …

Smartphone shipments in China are expected to surpass those of feature phones – devices with more functions than standard mobile phones – in China next year. The cheaper Android phones have hastened the popularity of smartphones. The average price of an Android phone in China will fall to about 800 yuan (US$126) by the end of this year. This represents a huge growth opportunity in the world’s biggest phone market. We believe the young Chinese generation will spend most of the time using their smartphone to receive information and entertainment in demand, while the elder will still prefer the old school way to watch television in the living room.
