Steve Ballmer Goes to China and Tell Chinese Students to Quit School

Untitled

Steve Ballmer recently made a trip to China and gives a talk at Peking University (the most prestigious Chinese university) in Beijing today. While we were expecting to see something outrageous from him, Ballmer actually gave an inspirational advice to the Chinese students while talking about Windows 8.

It’s an innovation talk.

During the talk, Ballmer talked about the status of Windows Phone in China. According to Ballmer, the number of Chinese apps being offered on Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace seems to be steadily increasing, with 4,000 Chinese apps available for download in the year 2011. And there are 6,000 Chinese developers so far. Next, Ballmer talked about the cloud computing technology in China, with plans of putting Azure accelerator in China to encourage Chinese companies to use cloud-based setups. According to Ballmer, the goal is to help the company find and help startups across China — and get them aboard Azure, Microsoft’s platform as a service.

Probably the best part of the talk is that Ballmer calls on students to quit school if they wish,

“If you wish to drop out, go ahead. There are few opportunities to change the world, and you need to be enthusiastic about changing the future.”

Well, Ballmer’s speech may inspired some Chinese students, but we were actually expecting to see Ballmer sweating profusely on stage.
