The HP Mini 5101 knockoff has landed a couple of months ago but the knockoff makers have put a new color on it, red. Moreover, the knockoff is engraved with the HP logo and it looks genuine now.
Apparently, this blazing red color is available on the HP mini 5102 which features a touch-screen on it. So, the knockoff we have got here is just like the real one. It copied everything including the metallic lid and the chiclet keyboard.
This HP 5101 wannabe gives you the new pine-trail platform featuring an Atom N450 processor running at 1.66GHz and GMA 3150 graphics card. Users get the default configuration of 1GB DDR2 RAM, 160GB (5400 RPM) hard drive, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and a 3-cell battery.
The HP logo is exactly the same as the ones you find on HP laptops.
Instead of providing you the corny 10-inch display, it gives you a bigger one with 11.6-inch (1366×768). Perfect for web-browsing.
The full-size chiclet keyboard just fit any fingers on it. The square chiclet keys are slightly bigger than the real ones.
On the left side, one USB 2.0 and SD card reader. Interestingly, there’s a port available for you to put an antenna for boosting Wi-Fi signal.
On the right side, headphone/microphone jacks, 2 USB 2.0, VGA output and LAN port.
Amazingly, you can’t find any screws on the base. Simple and clean.
If you are looking for a solid, durable and cheap netbook, this knockoff is your ideal choice and you can bring it home for just $2300 RMB (about $337). You can make an upgrade to 2GB RAM or 6-cell battery. I am fairly impressed with this clone.
