iPad Causes Great Nuisance for Chinese Parents

Getting children to go back to school and resume a normal life has turned into a headache for Chinese parents after the long Chinese New Year holidays. Chinese parents have complained they are unable to pull their children away from their new gifts, which is the popular Apple’s iPad 2 …

Many Chinese children were thrilled to get an iPad and enjoyed playing with the gadget during the holiday. However, parents soon discovered that their children were inseparable from their tablet devices. They would even protest when parents tried to take them away. A Chinese mother is worried that iPads will have a negative influence on her kid’s study. Some local education experts suggested parents should not squabble with their children over these issues and should respect their choices. The experts added that parents should set rules on playing with gadgets like iPad.

Actually, iPad can offer a better environment for learning, the tablet device is a new type of learning tool that is going to transform the way children learn, especially in China. Most important thing is what sort of apps you have installed for your kids, not just angry birds or fruits ninja.

Chinese parents should take note on what type of apps to be installed for their kids.

As a person who works in education here in China, I have to say that Chinese parents (at least in Beijing) suck at disciplining their children. I have never seen children more self-centered than the ones raised here. I was out for lunch with my significant-other’s family and some of their friends who happened to bring their children too. If for more than 10-15 minutes they are not the center of attention they start screaming. The parents of course did not try to put them in their place or educate them as to social norms. Instead they entertained their demands. I don’t even want to start getting into the children I see in kindergartens here on a regular basis. I don’t believe the one-child policy is an excuse. Children need to be disciplined and cultivated, not placed into the dead center of their parents’ worlds like they are the emperors of the household. The iPad is not your problem, folks. It’s the attitude with which you approach and educate your children. It’s a great educational tool, I agree, but not the only one. Take them outside to play, yes in the cold even so they can grow stronger bodies. Let them hurt themselves a bit for god’s sake. A few cuts and bruises teaches them far more than you can imagine. There’s no need for mommy and daddy and grandma and grandpa to take junior to kindergarten every day. They don’t need an entourage! Instead of just taking away the ipad (or insert other gizmo of interest) explain why it is taken away. Speak to your children, engage with them and be there for them not as a protector but a guide.

Children have to be let to their interest, this will help the children to cultivate their area of interest in their early stage.later in life there wont be any confusions in their future.
