China’s Most Expensive Android Tablet Could Be James Bond’s New Gadget

An unknown Chinese manufacturer launched a 9.7-inch Android tablet “Hongpaiyihao (Red Group Number One)” with a shocking 9,999 RMB (US$1,580) price tag, which is about twice the price of an iPad. The machine comes with a fancy leather case that’s embossed with in gold with the product’s name. The maker of this tablet emphasized this is “tailor-made for government officials”, this is insane…

It boasts a 9.7-inch 1024×768 touchscreen, Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a five megapixel main camera, a two megapixel front-facing camera, 3G connectivity and pre-loaded with Android 3.2 Honeycomb. Surprisingly, the machine equipped a 8,000 mAh battery, it just sounds crazy. Normally, a standard battery is about 1650 mAh and it can gives up to 20 hours of endurance. Besides, from its specs, we don’t see how this machine could worth as high as 9,999 RMB.

All the values of this tablet goes to the pre-installed pro-China apps, like Red Microblog, various China’s stated-fund newspaper publication…Well, there is one app named Electronic Public Opinion (网络舆情) that specifically mentioned by the maker. This app provides access to “exclusive” daily update of some government strategic decisions and the latest status of the China’s highest leader. And here is what the maker claimed:

“(The app) It allows to view contents that the other can’t access; It can provides in-depth analysis and information of some reports, while the others may only read the info in brief.”

Service for the People“, a political slogan which first appeared in Mao-era China. It is also appeared on the promotion for this tablet.

Interestingly, the promotion claimed this tablet allows user to stay as up-to-date as the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. And that’s all thanks to “People Daily”, the well-known Chinese state-funded newspaper publication. The maker claimed they are having a partnership with them, which would ensure all the latest news would appear on their app. However, this could be a deceptive advertising.

For some reasons, their homepage is inaccessible, seems like it had shut down…by the government perhaps? For all the “features” aforementioned, they are selling it at 9,999 yuan ($1,590) per unit, or 7,100 yuan ($1,120) each if you buy in bulk. Only the government official can afford to have one. We don’t think anyone here would buy this piece of patriotism, but we still manage to put a link here if you want to purchase it.
