Chinese iPad Knockoff Maker is Ready to Sue Apple if iPad Comes to China

This is insane. Shenzhen Great Loong Brother has been making a device which looks like a giant iPhone, named as P88. They started it 6 months ago and they think that Apple has stolen their idea for the magical and revolutionary device, the iPad.

You might wonder, what makes the iPad to be similar as the knockoff? Actually, they are not exactly the same. The P88 has a 250GB hard drive, an ethernet port, a webcam, and runs Windows 7 or XP. For the display, 10.2-inch for P88 and 9.7-inch for the iPad. Moreover, the knockoff only gives you an hour and a half of battery life, while the iPad gives you up to 10 hours. Also, this P88 costs $3688 RMB (about $525). So I think it’s ridiculous to charge Apple with plagiarism.

The president of Shenzhen Great Loong Brother, Xiaolong Wu, said these words:

We are considering legal action, but we can not do much in the United States. But if Apple brings the iPad to China, we will be forced to denounce them, because it will certainly affect our sales.

and the sales manager of SGLB said:

We are unhappy with the Apple’s iPad. We released the P88 on August 09, and there’s only “a son looks like father”, no such thing as “father looks like son”.

It’s said that the SGLB has about 300 workers in total, and this company started their career by making GPS devices. They had a change to manufacture notebooks in year 2008, and currently they start to make tablet PCs. For this P88, I would rather say it looks more like the HP Slate than the iPad. However, it’s smart to make use of Apple’s iPad to promote the P88, and in the same time, letting more people to get aware of Shenzhen Great Loong Brother.

One more thing, the company has another model named as i88, featuring an additional GPS function in it and sells for $4500 RMB (about $658).
