Tencent, the most authority online company in China, has recently announced a new online fighting game called ‘Xuan Dou Zhi Wang’ (which is literally translated as ‘Showoff Big Dipper King’ ), that could charitably be described as “heavily influenced” by the King of Fighters series from Japan. Check out the video after the break and see for yourself. We think that this new fighting game has not much unique staff to offer, it might just be another uninspired Chinese knockoff …
Tencent is best known for its Instant Messaging Software — QQ (like MSN), which has simultaneous online users exceeding 100 million in China. Due to the fact that practically every Chinese net citizen has at least one QQ account, it has a good customer base for its online games. For this reason, Tencent has been on its way to developing its own games apart from publishing other online games. Tencent has been relying on its games business for about 60 percent of its revenue, which totaled 19.6 billion yuan ($3 billion) in 2010.
The made-in-China fighting game might able to get some attention from the Chinese gamers at the start, but overall it will not become those mainstream fighting games which are always more “respectable”, just to remind you the Street Fighter and Tekken series.
