
Rovio Mobile’s Peter Vesterbacka was onstage along with a trio of unauthorized Angry Bird balloons to join John Biggs at TechCrunch DisruptBeijing chatting his future plan to expand in China.

Unlike Steve Jobs, Rovio’s Vesterbacka has a very positive attitude toward the unauthorized Angry Bird’s items, he sees the counterfeits in China as a source of inspiration. The balloons that he brought onstage is also made by some creative people in Beijing. Peter says he’ll look at some of the things the pirates are doing and telling his people that they should try that out. “So, yes, we’re pirating the pirates,” joked Peter.
But probably this is not really a joke. Did you remember the unauthorized Angry Bird Arcade Booth uncovered in a Chinese theme park? The park subsequently caught Rovio’s attention, and Rovio decided to negotiate a potential partnership instead of taking legal action. Probably since then, Peter had an idea in his mind to take Shanzhai products as reference.
Eventually, we spotted Vesterbacka toured Beijing and made a visit to a store that sells unofficial Angry Birds’ merchandise in search for the best unofficial Angry Birds items. Not sure what did he comes up with after the trip, but he complained the quality of these copies are poor. But if there is great and creative work, really no reason that they should hunt down them.
At the start of September this year, Rovio launched the “Moon Festival” episode for Angry Birds Seasons and baked angry bird-shaped mooncake in time for Chinese Mid-Autumn festival to appeal Chinese fans.
And 2-3 weeks ago, Rovio announced their an international office in Shanghai, and this is the biggest move that the company took to enter the Chinese market recently.

Toward the end of the conservation, John Biggs made an exclusive suggestion to Vesterbacka: “Peking Duck Bird“. Um…sounds delicious.
