Meizu M9 and MX to Get Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0

With Google set to release the Android 4.0 source code, there will be a mad rush from ODM’s like Huawei, Meizu, and other second tier companies to produce devices for the global market. Today, Meizu CEO Jack Wong quietly mentioned on his forum that the Meizu M9 and the upcoming Meizu MX will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Here’s what Jack said on his forum about Ice Cream Sandwich and the MX,

“The release date for the MX remains unchanged, but for the MX & M9 we will try our best to upgrade to (Android) 4.0 as soon as possible.”

And looks like Jack is confident to launch his upcoming 4-inch Android phone at December,

“We will stick to our original plan of a December release.”

Well, it looks like the MX’s end-of-year launch is real. Previously, Jack spilled lots of details about the MX — there will be two MX variants: the 16GB version comes with a dual-core chip, while the 32GB version will sport a quad-core beast. Both phones pack a 4.3-inch qHD display, front and rear cameras with the rear being an 8-megapixel CMOS sensor with LED flash, HSPA+, removable back cover, micro-USB port, and overall thickness will stay within the 10mm (0.4-inch) threshold.

The pricing is also revealed, the MX will come with a price tag of ¥4,999 ($780) for the 32GB quad-core brute and ¥3,999 ($625) for its dual-core 16GB sibling. Here’s the question, what’s taking so long for the release? Well, there’s a post from Jack replying to a fan who asked him to compare the cameras on the upcoming MX with the new iPhone 4S.

Jack’s reply to the camera question

In reply, Jack said that the MX is going to change to a more advanced back-illuminated camera, in pursuit of the best possible photo quality. Anyway, we think it’s worth a wait for Ice Cream Sandwich and a better camera. But c’mon, the Xiaomi phone is waaay cheaper and brings almost the same specs (will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich too), why do I need to go for Meizu MX?

p.s. We think Jack Wong does not care about the Meizu M8 anymore. So M8 users, please upgrade to M9 or MX. But we still recommend Xiaomi. :D
