While Amazon could be on track to ship as many as 5 million Kindle Fire tablets in the fourth quarter, the world’s largest online retailer has reportedly started to put plans in motion to produce a second-generation model of the Kindle Fire, which could see the long-rumored 10.1-inch tablet launch in the first half of next 2012. According to Digitimes, Foxconn has secured orders for the device and is working to get the tablet out of the foor and onto store shelves during that time period.
So, Amazon’s bigger, better tablet will be produced by Foxconn, while Quanta Computer is building the current generation Kindle Fire. We all know Foxconn was apparently involved in talks to produce the Kindle Fire, but according to industry sources, the company “reportedly decided to not take the 7-inch tablet PC orders as the company has been busily working on iPads for Apple.”
According to Taiwan-based makers, shipments of the 10.1-inch tablet device will begin in the first half of 2012. At the meantime, Foxconn declined to comment on it. Regarding to the device, early speculation has suggested the “Hollywood” tablet will have a 10-inch display and BGR exclusively reported in May that it will be powered by NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chipset. Well, we hope Foxconn could manage to produce the tablets for Amazon, and at the same time, working on Apple’s iPad.
