According to China local tech site report, users have found out the engineering prototypes of the new Xiaomi phone is shoddily made. The paint is chipping off, a crack on the left side hasn’t been closed properly and there’s an audible creaking sound when pressing on the phone. The camera’s lens is also apparently quite easy to collect dust. The CEO of the company has said they have already totally redone the molds of the phone, and the final version will use a different kind of spray paint, which consider to be more hard-wearing. Look like the company, for making the famous MIUI interface, is facing problem on quality control for their very first smartphone. We just hope Xiaomi Phone won’t turn out to become a badly-made ‘Shangzai’ product !

Pre-orders for the new Xiaomi phone in China were tremendous, with more then 300,000 orders. But there were already questions about how profitable the new phone could really be, given its rock-bottom price and expensive manufacturing costs. If the company has to contend with additional expenses in redoing the phone molds and changing spray paint types, it may further damage their bottom end. Meanwhile, we believe those 300,000 Chinese buyers who pre-ordered the phone are feeling nervous about the quality control. It is interesting to see how the users react when the Xiaomi drops for real this October. Xiaomi tech company has done a good job on developing the MIUI interface, but when come to hardware manufacturing, their experience on monitoring is inadequate. Even though, an engineering prototypes which has QC problem seem to be normal, but if the device was selling as an “engineering special edition” to consumer’s hand, a certain quality standard has to be achieved.
